My buddy Michael Butler over at one901.com just released some T-shirts. Go pick one up, they're likely pretty nice. I'll know for sure when I con him out of one, so next time I ply him with liquor.
![]() Today is officially the first day of spring, though it currently does't feel like it. That means it's almost time for the farmer's market. Opening day is April 2, who else is planning on going opening weekend? If you're in a spring cleaning mood and have some stuff that needs a new home, they're accepting donations March 15-17 at 3340 Poplar near the Poplar Plaza Kroger. They're looking for household items to help newly arrived refugees. Furniture, kitchen stuff, etc. Basically remember when you first moved out and went to open a can of veggies and realized you don't own a can opener, or a pot, or any spoons or bowls? Just like that, but less drunk. They need all that stuff, so if you have good condition household items you would like to get rid of, take them to World Relief Memphis. Since I'm pretty lazy, I'll just let their own documentation do the talking. Also I just noticed the option to attach a document to a post and it seems like it will facilitate my laziness. Also, in case you don't have a smart phone or can't read addresses, here's a map!
I picked up a Nexus 5x through the Project Fi deal earlier this week. I took this pic walking to pick up dinner and Google Photos made it black and white and cool. That is all.
![]() I eat here at least once a week, because their smoked salmon is made of absolute crack. I keep forgetting that since I'm an idiot who can't back up a website, everything old is new again, so I remembered to take pictures this time. Majestic Grille is an upscale American restaurant located more or less at Main and Peabody Place. The building used to house a theater and that theme carries into the restaurant. They play silent movies on a big projection screen and have special menus prior to broadway shows at The Orpheum. I've honestly never had anything bad there, but by far my favorite thing on the menu is the house smoked salmon appetizer. It's a ridiculous amount of food for the price, it's not bad for you, and it's seriously amazingly delicious. It's a giant piece of smoked salmon, some crusty toasted bread, horseradish cream sauce, stone ground mustard, capers, and red onion. You build your own little salmon appetizer. Like so: I'm literally at loss for words as to how good this is, just go get it. There's really no reason not to. At least once a week I just order the salmon and a cup of soup for dinner, usually for takeout when I'm filthy from working all day and not fit for human consumption. It's extra good on a super hot summer night, nice and light and cool. Just do it, ok? Tonight, I split the salmon with a friend of mine and then decided to split the pork tenderloin entree as well, it's another favorite of mine. Served with garlic mashed potatoes, fried onions, and candied carrots. It's a huge amount of food, and IMO is enough for two even without the salmon appetizer. So either split it or come very hungry. Or just be a pig and eat it all, I've done it before and I regret NOTHING. If you're a local who has somehow missed out on Majestic, or just passing through and looking for something a little fancier than BBQ within walking distance of Beale, give it a try, I've never been disappointed.
I've posted about this before but my sous vide might be my favorite thing. In short, it brings a big vat of water to a specific temperature. You put food in it and it makes the food that temp.
This is neat because it cooks all of the food to the same temp all the way through, and it makes it near impossible to overcook stuff. I dropped steaks in at 132 and left them for a few hours until the other stuff was done. The results pretty well speak for themselves. |
